Rethinking Remote Onboarding: The Missing Piece in Employee Integration

Professor Weilage, Christopher, core faculty member at Munich Business Schooll, has published a new peer-reviewed article in the International Journal of Organizational Analysis on the challenges and opportunities of remote onboarding.

His research highlights a key gap in existing onboarding models: the role of IT support. While traditional onboarding frameworks focus on corporate, management, and co-worker welcomes, his study introduces a fourth essential component — an IT Welcome.

The study shows that IT-related challenges during remote onboarding can negatively impact employee engagement and commitment. A structured IT Welcome, ensuring proper tech setup and immediate support, can make a significant difference in helping new employees integrate smoothly.
